Monique M. Barbour, M.D.

About Monique M. Barbour, MD: A Board Certified Ophthalmologist

I am a native of Washington, D.C. where I grew up within walking distance of Capitol Hill. I left home to attend Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina where I received my bachelor's degree in Pre-Medicine.   I graduated with honors from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and I completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y.

After residency, I completed a  Glaucoma fellowship at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and a Refractive Surgery fellowship at the world renowned Institute de Clinica Barraquer in Bogata, Columbia.    I have been  the medical director of Clear Vue Laser Eye Center, a comfortable, state-of-the-art vision care center for the past 15 years.  As a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, I am  dedicated to providing the highest quality of ophthalmic care.

I have in fact performed thousands of microsurgical procedures including “No Stitch” cataract surgery and pterygium surgery. Dry eye syndrome is managed very aggressively under my care and may include use of Omega 3s or Restasis. I am well trained and equipped to diagnose and treat all kinds of patients including diabetics. I have both a fundus camera and an OCT in the office. In addition to the above, I do provide cosmetic and aesthetic services including treatment with BOTOX, RESTYLANE and JUVEDERM injections for facial and eyelid rejuvenation. In addition, I do perform eyelid lift surgery for improved eyelid position.

I can be urgently consulted for ocular emergencies and injuries. Treating all patients of any age, I make an effort to connect with patients through the many languages I speak. Even though others consider me trilingual (si, hablo espanol)  I am always learning.  I  have surgical privileges at Palm Beach Outpatient Surgery Center, Riverwalk Surgical Center and South County Outpatient Surgery Center where I perform laser vision correction.

On a personal note I reside not too far away from the office with my family.  My son Dom is now in college studying fashion marketing.  My daughter Sasha is also in college majoring in musical theater. My youngest daughter Reine is a competitive swimmer. Both of my daughters are wonderful singers.  I enjoy traveling to strange places with my family, playing the acoustic guitar and tennis. My legacy is The Smiles and Vision Foundation which I created to educate others  and treat disadvantage persons with vision related issues.
